No box no printed manual  |
OK - this is not a review of the product which may or may not be very good. This is a review of the "bundle" that I received from Amazon. To me a "bundle" is when two separate products are "wrapped" together to form a single package. This is not a bundle - it is a pre-packaged version which now "includes" the dark matter disk. All you get is a DVD style case and the disks inside.I have purchased this as a gift so it is still sealed. Quite obviously you do not get even one box let alone two. Worst of all you get no printed manual. Sure the blurb refers to "an extensive user manual" running to trillions of pages no doubt. What it doesnt tell is you get it (I presume) on the disk. This is pretty darn useless. If you are going to learn a new programming language you really want to get to grips with it in a real and physical way! Write notes - make book marks etc. Sorry but I (and most other people I know) hate reading detailed stuff off a computer monitor - what you want is a book! Give your eyes a rest, curl up and really get your head around it. OK so you can print it out but that will cost a fortune in paper and ink. Dark basic certainly used to come with a printed manual (all the second hand copies on ebay verify this). I bought this supposed bundle because it seemed to be good value - point is its NOT a bundle. Its a cheap repackaging of an aging programme. Be warned!

Dark Basic - the answer to your dreams  |
A fantastic product for anyone wanting to do anything harnessing the power of Direct X. Mainly intended for 3D games writing, but also very good for 3D presentation of anything.A programming background will have you up and running within the hour. For anyone with no programming background, the tutorials are excellent. A couple of weeks of studying these and you will be ready to go. My advice if you buy it - dont stick to the rules! I have created some fantastic camera fly-bys by bending the rules, the Kind of stuff you would expect in top notch films. Its just a pity my 3D modelling skills let it down!!!

This is such a good package to have and I think we can ala agree it is at a more-than-reasonable price. Darkbasic is so feature packed and Dark Matter contributes to it further. I am pesonally an experienced DIV games studio user, but since my upgrade to Win 2k i cant use it- but Dark basic can be used on any system and yet it is quite simple to make powerful 3D games with a bit of imagination and the most basic knowledge of BASIC code. All in all i think this pack is an excellent buy if you want to make good looking 3D games for funand gte a lot of help to make them look great and play great! You dont even need to think about it - just buy it!
